Anons, Gen 1-2 "old" guy here. Never played any game after them with the exception of a little bit of FR/LG to relieve my childhood years, though I stopped playing because of IRL stuff. I have casually sunk hours in Smogon between Gen 5 and and Gen 7 though, so it's not like I'm unaware of new pokemon or the competitive side of things (on the contrary).

I want to start playing all Pokemon games from an RPG, storyline and character perspective from Gen 3 onwards, now that I have more time. My question is: Should I shortcut my way by choosing remakes over the original games or not? (like FR/LG being remakes of RBY)
