>>44773398>See, the thing is Gen 8 did REMARKABLY well despite what you or I or anyone else here thinks. That doesn't give Game Freak much incentive to change anything, they'll just double down on what they've already done.See this has definitely been the case for the last several years, but now I'm not so sure. I don't think they will get away with much more than what they did last year, and I don't think they're going to try again until it's been long enough that everyone forgot.
You have to remember that before that point, Gamefreak did not hear about or give a shit about any of the criticisms, it was just /vp/ bitching and it never really leaked farther than places like reddit and other forums. They didn't give a shit when we didn't like XY's small postgame and amount of new POkemon, or ORAS's lack of BF and Emerald content, SM's cutscenes and hallways, USUM's ultra hallways, or LGPE doing a third rehash of the first game while removing all balance of the main game. This was the first time where it actually began to reach employees that people were pissed. Will it mean anything, I don't know, but if it's ever going to change in any small way it will be now.
>but I ask you was that really the right move considering how Kalos was handled? Not at all, but they certainly thought so.
I would never expect anything truly great unless they show a pattern for an extended period of the games going above and all, which is probably why expectations were so high for XY.
I do like to be cautiously optimistic, I've thought it over and even a conservative DP remake would put this generation in the top four which is really not bad all things considered. If they happen to patch SWSH with it then Gen 8 probably bumps up to top 3 for me even with all the flaws, which would be fantastic.
