Since you're used to POGO, you probably don't know the deal aside from petty twitter arguments. But half of the draw from Pokemon games was being able to transfer literally any Pokemon that wasn't catchable in the region from an older game. It incentivized players to buy older games rather than just wait for the "best" version and also gave a reason to buy the subscription service "Pokemon Bank" to do so.
Sword and Shield are the first games to not let you transfer in every Pokemon. That's not too much of an issue, the problem is that they made a SECOND, more expensive, subscription service that you need to use alongside Bank (called HOME) in order to transfer the Pokemon that are in the games over.
>>44781988It depends on what you're going for. As games they FEEL better to play but are pitifully easy and the pacing is kind of dumb near the end.
But they absolutely are the best games to play with friends and if you don't mind taking the slow route to get to know your Pokemon throughout your adventure, they're great experiences.
If you want less "adventure" but more difficulty, go Ultra Sun.
If you want an adventure with interesting lore at the expense of difficulty, XY might be more your cup of tea. They have the most diverse region, too.
Just be warned that XY has some plot elements that were meant to be explained and still haven't to this day, it can be very frustrating playing, enjoying them, and then coming back to present day where GameFreak refuses to revisit the things that were left unanswered,
