Just out of curiosity, anyone here have a favorite starter? Personally for me, I've always loved Bulbasaur. I grew up with him being my favorite. I know move wise and stat wise he's pretty shit, though.

If we're talking about base forms only (not the evolutions), Bulbasaur is my favourite too. If we include the evolutions, then it's Charmander. Venusaur isn't as cool looking. If it kept the angry eyes and spots from Bulbasaur and Ivysaur, it would be better.

I agree with you there. Venusaur looks a little bit whack -- still like him, though. Though design wise, I'd have to agree that Charizard is better, design and stat wise.

Okay I just figured out how to reply, cool.
Anyways, yeah. Totodile is my go-to for the Johto games. I used to like Pikachu quite a bit, but one broke my shiny chain on Alpha Sapphire while I was looking for a shiny buneary in the safari zone.

Sorry -- I was referring to his old movepool. He wasn't necessarily the best in the first gen games. I struggled a lot with him. Decidueye and Rowlet are pretty good. And yes, I'm aware I'm stupid.

I don't understand how anybody can use a Pokemon just because it has good stats. If you don't like the design, why use it? I like a Pokemon based on its design and concept. If it has good stats, that's cool, but it's not necessary.

Bulbasaur is one of the best starters competitively and it was the optimal choice in Gen1 with 2 broken moves

sure it didn't have much moves in Gen1, but Razor Leaf and Toxic + Leech Seed fucked over most of the game while Blastoise and Charizard had terrible stats that Gamefreak had to boost their stats in Gen2 but Venusaur was left untouched

That's a hard question to answer, OP. Though from my experience, I usually lean towards Pokemon that I like the most when picking my starter. (Which lead to me mainly Grass and Water types)

But if I had to choose my favorite starters in each region:

Kanto is Squirtle

Johto is Cyndaquil

Hoenn is Mudkip

Sinnoh is Turtwig and Piplup

Unova is Snivy

Kalos is Froakie

Alola is Rowlet and Popplio

Galar is Scorbunny.
