It's neat, it finally breaks the rule about certain pokémon being restricted to end game areas. Also it's not easy to get so it's not like it's some sort of crutch like Lati@s in ORAS.

Fuck that thing is frustrating, not even the low encounter rate that pisses me off but the fact that the grass patches at the Mt. Pyre Summit are so tiny it's impossible to just run back and forth in a straight line like you can with any of the Surskit routes.

Same, I had made it so all of my PokeGear contacts were trainers I could rebattle (mostly on Route 26) so I hardly ever got swarm calls.

It's a reward for patient players. The RNG is so against you getting a Salamence in those encounters. Hell, Bagon is a 1% encounter on that route. You have to actively seek it out and spend a considerable amount of time to even get a shot at getting the SOS Salamence.

My most recent play through I was a lot more strategic with my phone, I got all the swarm and item numbers early then replaced them with cooltrainers after I had what I needed. I was lucky enough to get a water stone on my first call with Tully too.

There’s nothing more exciting for me that randomly hearing the legendary encounter theme in Crystal while traversing Johto. Catching them is another story, very challenging but immensely satisfying.

This is the only answer.
I got one on my second try in platinum once when going for an ambipom and I nearly fucking shat myself. 1% is bad enough but you can only try like 1 or 2 times a day at most so grinding to get one is essentially impossible. I didn't even know I was using a munchlax tree either it was pure chance
