>>44799672That's the point. It feels much more tense and satisfying when you go from being in a seemingly vast world to a tight spaced where you're forced to either push through whatever challenges await or solve whatever dumb puzzle it wants.
Maybe that's why they don't have dungeons anymore. The whole game is a tight, enclosed, space with nothing to do but collect a few items along the path or battle the trainers. If you play Pokemon past ORAS you're basically in GameFreak's dungeon.
