Charmander-Charizard literally job in all of the first three episodes. Jolteon got more fucking spotlight than Charmeleon. The rest of his team all swept through the E4 without Charizard even coming out.
Origins' problem was shitty pacing and writing in the last episode. Like it or not, it's based.

It would have been great as a 10/15 episode miniseason. 90% of Origin's problems are because of the fact it's a 4 episode special that lacked too much meaningful development for the last half. The other 10% is the fact it's a commercial.

The Ashnime had really gone to shit with the Black & White series and people were more desperate than ever for a Pokemon anime that didn't have Ash in it. This was also back when Gen I pandering was a new thing and people weren't sick of it yet.
