>>44799868>>44799262The thing Lucario, Heroes, and Unown have in their favor is that Ash has an actual emotional investment, a reason to be there. He's either saving someone important to him(his mom, pikachu), or he forms a proper bond with the central character/mon of the movie(lucario, latias)
Deoxys and Celebi I also liked, and they also the latter in a way, but with a human character(Tory, Sam). Since it's a human character though, you might argue it would be better to just let it be a standalone story and let the new kids function as Ash would. I actually feel some Pokemon movies would work better as fully standalone stories. They already kinda took a step in this direction by cutting off the movie timeline from the anime one, and you could say the result is positive somewhat. 2000 is also great for the sense of scale and grandness it has. Mewtwo's a classic for all its problems. DP movies have cool locations and to tie all 3 was a cool idea, but they just kinda fall short. Manaphy was fucking retarded, even though I like May a lot and I liked the Ranger guy. Everything else is just whatevs.
