Pretty sure that weather ball is guaranteed to 2hko toxapex and flamethrower isnt. When you throw stab and sunny day into the picture, you'll get more milage out of a variety of fire attacks than you would out of increased type coverage.

I used TrickScarf Togekiss with substitute and thunderwave in gen 4 when lead machamp started getting popular. Crippled 2-3 pokemon per match. Sometimes unconventional or seemingly gimmick sets work pretty well.

Assuming I had infinite move slots, I would. But I don't, so it's not worth the moveslot. Charizard hardly has any options worth considering because clicking a boosted fire move in sun 2 shots almost everything, no prediction needed. Locking yourself into a less powerful coverage move is usually not optimal.
Also, it never said you had to run roost, if you really need coverage for a very specific pokemon, you can run that.

why would you use roost against a threatening set up sweeper? you use roost when you predict them going into a defensive pokemon that you cannot touch. The only situation where this would happen is if they predict you going for roost and switch their win condition into a potentially dangerous attack, which is a REALLY bold predict.

Sun weather ball literally does more damage against resisted targets vs air slash neutrally.
Choice specs is used because you literally just click weather ball with no repercussion. Although I guess being able to roost freely helps in a few matchups.

Somehow you're not seeing the issue, you end up losing a lot of momentum being forced to switch due to being locked into roost while also allowing your opponent to gain free chip with stealth rocks on everything. There are situations where getting off a big hit and losing a Mon is better than saving the Mon at your team's expense.

And if you didn’t have roost, Charizard would be dead the moment you switched it out. Use roost if you can afford to lose momentum and need Charizard as a win-condition for late-game cleanup

Flamethrower because in late battle you might not have the sun anymore and don't want to be unable to do damage after one Overheat

This set is made to abuse it's obsurd offensive potential while also cucking defensive pokemon that a spec'd aegis can't deal with. Sure you have to swap it out when you're in an unfavourable situation, but it gets the job done reliably.

You only ever need 2 moves, the other 2 are (admittedly very good) fillers

Fire moves are all you need to 1/2HKO every Pokemon in OU, the only exception being Tyranitar which is what Focus Blast is for. Solar Power Zard is extremely squishy so Roost on a predicted switch lets it survive longer.
