Let's be honest. Lusamine's handling as a character being so controversial to the point where the franchise never wants to give her a villainous role again (and Twitter mobs still hate her despite TPC's attempts to redeem her in public eyes) is all due to Gamefreak's failure to properly convey her character in the original SM games. Yeah. She's selfish, manipulative, and downright insane. And if that was literally all there was to her character, GF would have given her a proper sendoff a la Ghetsis or worse, and we wouldn't be having issues with her today. But no. She's also meant to be lost, desperate, and heartbroken. The problem is her latter three qualities are never given the proper exposure and time to settle like the former three are. So when GF tried to pass her off as redeemable with a single out of nowhere line about how "beautiful" Lillie got coupled with an offscreen apology or two, if comes off as disingenuous. Even USUM did little to make up for this with their "ultra changes." And then it's all downhill from there.
