>>44808210I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Gen 3 Kanto, is in fact, Kanto/Sevii, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Kanto plus Sevii. Sevii is not a game unto itself, but rather another fun segment of a fully functioning Kanto game made useful by the Kanto pokemon, routes and HMs comprising a full game as defined by Game Freak.
Many gba users run a modified version of the Kanto game every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Kanto which is widely used today is often called "FRLG", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Kanto game, developed by the Kanto Project.
There really is a Kanto, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the game they use. Kanto is the tutorial: the segment in the game that allocates the players attention to the mechanics of the game that you run. The tutorial is an essential part of an game, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete game. Kanto is normally used in combination with the Sevii video game: the whole system is basically Sevii with Kanto added, or Kanto/Sevii. All the so-called "Kanto" distributions are really distributions of Kanto/Sevii.
