The good example would have the super effectiveness message pop-in right as the hit is made like PBR. Mainline Pokemon has the message happen after a second of dead timing when the animation stops.

This doesn't really work with slower pokemon because you get a lot of what >>44811625 is thinking of where a rhyperior has to waddle up to a pokemon and then punch it and then go back. If we made the pokemon closer we'd have the same problem with fast pokemon so I don't know how this would work.

I think the happiest medium is to either bring the monsters in closer or combine forced perspective with model stretch & squash to make hits seem more impactful. But in any case next Gen should take a leaf from Peeber and have the effectiveness messages happen when the attack makes impact.

the funny thing is, Battle Revolution actually DOES have longer and slower animations. But the constant empty space in SWSH where everything pauses - then the health bar drops, then pause, then item animation, then pause, then Machoke's attack, etc - means that SWSH ends up wasting so much more time it's insane

The animations are literally a non-issue. The fault is entirely with Gamefreak refusing the streamline everything in between.

It's so awkward. Back with sprites it was obvious that you were supposed to fill in the blanks with your imagination, but as the graphics get more and more 'real' it just makes everything look shit when the game is constantly riding the line of actually being the Pokemon universe or a half-baked abstraction that isn't meant to look real

I guess it doesn't matter to you, since you only use the Gamefreak-mandated favorites anyway, but there was a time where every Pokemon got roughly the same quality of animations.
Now if you don't use a subset of specific shillmon you get shafted. And the fags with no originality keep bleating about how much 'soul' the game has because Gamefreak panders directly to you and you never see the rest lol
