little to none. greninja isnt in swsh, pikachu couldn't be caught in bw, etc. the number of people who would refuse to buy a game bc X mon wasn't in is extremely small and is prolly more interested in merch collecting anyway

They literally weren't. Charizard's votes were in a pool of 151 Pokemon while Greninja's were in a pool of 72 completely different Pokemon. Their votes are completely separate.

This metric is meaningless and only indicates that Greninja is more popular relative to Gen 6 than Charizard is relative to Gen 1. Which isn't that surprising since no one fucking cares about any Kalos Pokemon outside of Greninja and Sylveon while Kanto easily has over a dozen popular Pokemon with decently sized fanbases.

Way more people voted for Kanto, thus charizard had many more chances to be voted for even in a greater voting pool, and it still fell flat. They even let you vote twice with the overall vote! I’d think there’d be more skepticisms than backlash initially as nobody in the fanbase would actually believe gamefreak would suddenly stop shoving Charizard in the audiences faces but other than that I don’t think the fanbase as a whole would care if Charizard shilling stopped (while a small faction will probably celebrate) as until gen 6 (and excluding gen 1) charizard took more of a backseat for a while game wise so the series can survive without blatant Charizard shilling.

Kanto received ~15% more votes than Kalos
Charizard: 93,968/731,203
Greninja: 140,559/636,377
If we gave greninja the same voting potential as charizard it would’ve had 161,504 votes. This is enough to prove greninja is simply more popular overall. Kalos dex size is irrelevant when voting for any particular region isn’t required, since you’re implying people were somehow forced to vote for greninja.
