>>44828298It's hard to determine exactly what this Pokemon is meant to be, but Calyrex seems to be based on the prophetic king, and it has the Hojo Clan symbol on it. This hints that Calyrex is the ruler of the world following the end-times as hinted in the Crown Tundra. Psychic and Grass. The same type combination exactly as Celebi, who is known to be able to read the future as well and can travel through multiple timelines. The Movie 23 timeline Celebi has retconned the current opening in the anime and even appeared in an alternate universe (anime). That Celebi presumably influenced Dada Zarude into protecting a young boy. In any case, it is some sort of intervention. Calyrex has likely done intervening as well to prepare for whatever threat exists in the region at large, whether it be Ultra Beasts or the new Regi. Calyrex is entirely based on fictional and mythological creatures, such as a jackalope or a wolpertinger, hinting a connection between mythology and divination. Calyrex's Grass-type hints that this Pokemon wants to save the world and nature, no matter what has to be sacrificed in the process. A recurring theme in Galar is how industry, entertainment, and human arrogance has destroyed nature. The Crown Tundra will likely serve as some sort of divine judgment towards the characters in the game, as they are playing with and belittling forces far beyond their understanding. I like Calyrex's design a lot, but I like the lore even more. "It also has the power to see the past, present, and future of any kind" hints that Calyrex can perceive multiple timelines and universes, which is far above the capabilities of most Psychic-type Pokemon. I find it intriguing that this year's Mythical and cover Legendary have that Grass secondary typing right as the entire world is suffering from climate catastrophe. Perhaps Game Freak is trying to get us to be alerted to what's going on outside and is trying to use these games to help us.
