They didn't though, it's just as autistic, but now it's down to how far along are you willing to date-skip your switch and enter raids to keep the chain going to get that shiny.
Meanwhile, they actually fixed shiny breeding from Gen Vii, so I've been breeding my shinies and in quicker times than I'd ever hope to achieve on US.

Not necessarily gamefreak increasing the odds, but zoomers using time traveling / raid manipulation exploit to host shiny raids. If you know what types of raids / hosts to look for they become pretty common.
