Pokemon gain stats when defeating another Pokemon since the beginning, this existed even in Gen 1 and 2 but the stats were so absurdly high it was both tedious and ridiculous for Pokémon like Tauros and Snorlax
In Gen3 the system changed and was simplified a Pokemon can get a maximum of 510 Stat xp points now named EVs a star can have a maximum of 255 evs in gen4 wich includes soul silver wich means you can max 2 stats at 255
However stats are gained every 4 points so you might want to stop at 252 for 2 and get 6 freebies to get somewhere else
On top of 252 being the limit Pokemon with a nature let's say adamant get an extra point every 44 so instead of getting 11 they get 12 this repeats for 88, 132, 176, 220, this is just another small perk to adamant boosting base atk by 10% its a small boost if you pass a training benchmark
In total neutral nature max gives you 63 points boosted nature gives you a bit more
This is the basis for Pokémon Stat training, the more Pokemon that give atk you faint and gain exp the more points you get, faint 4 zubats you get 4 evs wich translate as 1 speed point, faint 44 zubats get 12 points if you are jolly, hasty, naive or timid or 11 if you are anything else
Look at this glameow, it basically maxed speed because I have been trying to get a shiny ponyta, I have fainted so many Ponytas I basically got pokerus too wich is embarrassing in retrospective
If I were to compare it to another glameow that was also jolly and of the same level this glameow will have around 40 speed more than a non trained jolly glameow and near 50 to an adamant one
Thats the power of Stat training
