Why did they decide to portray Steel attacks glowing like that? Is simply asking for body parts turning into metal too much?

The Japanese actually do not have an understanding of what steel is, and historically have never used steel in their construction. Steel-type becoming a thing was purely due to Western influence.

Yeah, because how else are you going to justify its elemental type? What's the difference between a Steelix using Iron Tail and Dragon Tail? Or a Pokemon with claws using Slash or Dragon Claw?

The anime only cares about type matchups when it is convenient to do so so it hardly matters in that regard.
Besides, I never heard anyone being confused by it in OS, when most physical attacks were just physical attacks.

That's dumb as hell. Same problem as when mons gain huge elemental claws. Why do they even need claws in the first place to use the technique then?

Game Freak can't animate moves, so the anime just copies the in-game move animations, the only difference is that they actually make physical contact instead of a .png of a fist/tail popping up on top of the other Pokemon.

Yes, and Dragon Claw coats the hand in Dragon energy and Throat Chop coats the hand in Dark energy.

It's the same principle. Ice Punch also doesn't coat the hand in ice, just blue "Ice" energy.

The thing is "fire energy" is just fire, the same as "electric energy" is just electric charge.

If they showed Pokemon punching/biting each other normally, they'd get in trouble. Pokemon's entire image as a brand is built on being non-violent and promoting good morals like teamwork, friendship, compassion, and good sportsmanship.
