>>44860497Surfing Pikachu. Surfing is a popular trend in Hawaii, which Alola is based on. Pikachu had a strong association with the Psychic-type already, given its movepool. (Even in Gen 1, Pikachu had Light Screen and Agility in its level-up movepool, as well as Rest and Reflect.) Several dex entries mention Pikachu having significant awareness and intelligence compared to other Electric-types, and the strength of its electricity is dependent on the sleep cycle:
>Yellow: t keeps its tail raised to monitor its surroundings. If you yank its tail, it will try to bite you.>Gold: This intelligent Pokémon roasts hard berries with electricity to make them tender enough to eat.>Ruby: Whenever Pikachu comes across something new, it blasts it with a jolt of electricity. If you come across a blackened berry, it's evidence that this Pokémon mistook the intensity of its charge.>Sapphire: This Pokémon has electricity-storing pouches on its cheeks. These appear to become electrically charged during the night while Pikachu sleeps. It occasionally discharges electricity when it is dozy after waking up.>Ultra Moon: While sleeping, it generates electricity in the sacs in its cheeks. If it's not getting enough sleep, it will be able to use only weak electricity.Pikachu had dormant psychic abilities that were properly awakened in Alola, due to the weather, climate, culture, and food giving it far more energy than ever before. Alolan Raichu uses psychokinesis to levitate in the water, as well as navigate through electricity. (Though I wish there were a Psychic Terrain version of Surge Surfer that takes advantage of Alolan Raichu's secondary typing.)
