None of Team Flare is developed besides Lysandre, and his development is lackluster and doesn't fit well with his motives. On top of that, AZ is thrown into the plot without being expanded on or explained, and the game devs don't even seem to understand the lore they built themselves half the time.
I'm not expecting a great story from Pokemon, but the "other games have the same issue" argument doesn't magically make XY's flaws go away, either.

On top of that, I think RS and DP are dogshit games themselves, but we're talking about XY here so I'm not sure why DP or RS being bad games somehow makes XY better.
XY are bad games just like RS and DP were, but despite being part of the "release a game and then release a better version" gimmick Pokemon has, they just gave us the shitty version and left us with that.
