I actually enjoyed the ball throwing mechanics though they could be made more accurate, and riding/following was the best it's ever been. Because of Secret Techniques, it's quite literally the potentially least linear Pokemon game.
There's no excuse for the cut, though. They need to get their hands off their asses and stop cucking everything Johto brought to Kanto. Let there be night time, add the Johto evolutions AT LEAST, give the daycare a fucking purpose.
It's a microcosm of GameFreak's laziness and unwillingness to go back to their roots. They're so concerned with jeopardizing the "integrity" of Kanto that they only end up bastardizing it by setting up restrictions that never existed back in the day. Ho-oh/Donphan/Marill/Togepi were basically honorary Kanto Pokemon. There's no reason to make the same mistake you made with FRLG TWICE in the current year.
