Real men don't run Flamethrower. You run Weather Ball for when Sun is up, Overheat when you absolutely have to kill the mother fucker that's switching into you, and Focus Blast everything else. Roost is used to stabilize after Solar Power/hazard chip, plus everybody has access to knock off again so sometimes you actually aren't locked into it. Flamethrower is for if you're a coward and want a reliable Fire-type move that doesn't rely on Sun.

Charizard has no other niche than to be a fire nuke in OU.
When you combine STAB, Sun, Solar Power, and Specs, you get a x5.0625 boost to all these fire moves.
Focus Blast is specifically for Tyranitar, the only real thing that, along with Pelipper, that can stop Charizard.
Otherwise, Charizard just OHKOs everything.
Roost does come in handy for when Solar Power is about to drain you of you HP, but you can still threaten something out.
