It's fine if the director has an intention. That could very well be how that ends up going, which is fine. But since nothing in the show directly makes it a point that they're going to become an official couple later, there's always a chance that future writers will do something else that contradicts it.

I would say it's one of those "wait and see" things, but let's not kid ourselves. Ash is probably never getting older, and he will probably never get a series where he has a real romantic relationship with anyone. As far as I'm concerned amourshippers can take this as a personal victory for now, but treating it as hard canon may not pan out.

It most likely happened due to the heavy backslash for the kalos league. The understood that their audience hated when ash lost so they changed their priorities. Serena kissing ash didn't have any negative response infact it blew up like crazy and was trending for 4 days on japanese twitter. It's obvious they are won't contradict this in the future because they know their audience love shipping ash with serena. This is also why no girl has kissed ash after serena left because they don't wanna upset their fans. It's a subtle but obvious nod from their side

I can appreciate shipping. You like the idea of certain characters getting together. That's nice.

But I will never understand why people go so far to argue about shipping characters who are children. Ash and the girls that he travels with are not even teenagers. Serena has a crush, and Ash is basically oblivious the whole way through the series-- which isn't all that strange for an anime, except that it's even more harder to try to act like it's any kind of serious romance because they're children.

Did you watch SM? Girls are still eye candy and always will be but they haven't shipped anybody with ash since serena. There's only one reason why they wouldn't do that and that is because they know have already designated serena as the love interest

When you see them kiss you're supposed to hope and assume that they will be a couple, this is what should go through your mind. This being a kids show is exactly why the kiss is a big deal because it's usually reserved for the MC and his significant half. And since we're talking about kids they don't do the kind mental gymnastics like you, one kiss is enough to make them understand that serena is the one for him because nobody else did what she did.
