Was Lando really the best in Gen 6? I thought that was M-Sableye.

Lando is definitely best in Gen 7 and Pex in Gen 8

These should be adjusted for dex inflation though. 94% when there's 151 pokemon is as impressive as 47% when there's 302 pokemon and twice as much competition, by landos time there's 649 pokemon so given the increase in potential team members we should expect a pokemon of equivalent popularity to crop up about 20% of the time

To be fair early gens had much less pokemon, and only a few of them has BST over 500. Then introduction of abilities and physical/special split crippled a lot of previously viable pokemon.

In late HGSS era the highest was Heatran at 26%. Tyranitar also was literally never #1 in usage lol, the battle was always between Heatran and Scizor.

Gen 6's queen was Clefable and it wasn't even close

Gen 7 Lando may have been better than in gen 6, but it had more competition in Toxapex and Mag. Current day tournaments see Gliscor more often than Lando I think

The logic goes that without Snorlax, the meta gets even slower and more of a stallfest, because Snorlax is one of the best offensive Pokemon in the game. It may be true but afaik there's never been a long-term test of a Snorlax-less Gen 2, just some one-off tournaments. Deep down most people will admit that they just don't wanna drastically change such an old meta.

Lando was easily kept in check by his lack of reliable recovery, 4x ice weakness, and bad special defense.
He's really good, don't get me wrong, but not spammable and easy to use all willy-nilly.
