I love how Giovanni doesn't give a shit about him. He left him, the rest of TR doesn't recognize or respect him and just know Giovanni has a spawn with red hair, he never mentions his son in other games like USUM or Masters and Silver is probably just one of his many bastards

I appreciate Silver as a rival because he more overtly demonstrates the theme regarding caring about your Pokemon. That and he's just straight up a criminal. Unlike Blue, he also gets his character development in the same game.

my first game was Firered and I actually got hyped for him because of the sevii island rumor about Giovanni's son with red hair and I heard he was going to be an asshole like blue, and I didn't like the nice rival in RSE. Then when I finally played HgSs I found him kind of underwhelming, probably because I wasn't a kid anymore. At this point I probably like Barry more since he felt more like a "rival" by the definition of the word

This is what Silver really missed
I'll still take him over faggots like Barry, but Silver's real shortcoming is he never did anything that made him feel like a particularly talented or competitive rival
He only shows up for you to kick his ass, then he's gone
You never see any evidence he's beating strong trainers or getting badges ahead of you or anything
What does Silver even spend the game doing when he's offscreen?
He needs a real plot, and an epic showdown at the end like the Blue champion fight

The headcanon part is right, but there's nothing good about either version of Silver. The GS beta revealed that he was supposed to be just a yet another Green and his edgy character is an uninspired late addition, so in remakes they were happy with whatever lore the fandom came up in the meantime.
