I don't approve of this idea, but I'll try to vouch for it anyway since it's at least different from the Sound/Light/Cosmic shit we always get.

>remove Rock, because fuck you, now we Earth Type.
>add what I'm going to call Crystal Type
>more accurate would be Jewel or Gemstone Type, and Diamond Type is a decent alternative, but Crystal seems best. Also yes ice is technically a crystal structure but shut up, it's for gemstones.
>aesthetically tied to themes like luxury, wealth, royalty, rareness, beauty etc.

I don't think it's a good idea for the series, but I think Crystal could have worked from the beginning if things had transpired slightly differently. If you scroll through the dex, you'll notice a surprising amount of mons feature gemstones on them. Most of these wouldn't be Crystal Type, but this means there is a precedent and they'd be able to learn a Crystal move or two.

>unlike Steel and the previously-existing Rock Type, Crystal Types specialize in high special defense, not physical. in fact they usually have rather low physical defense.
>attacks are commonly physical OR special. easy to think of something like a diamond blade or gem cutter for physical, or a sort of colorful beam of energy or laser light for special

Unlike something heavily abstract like Cosmic, Crystal's Type matchups are much easier to think up.

>resists Water, weak to Fire, as you'd expect via le epic anime onix.
>because dragons are very much known for hoarding treasure, and the 2 are generally associated with each other, Crystal is weak to Dragon.
>because of how crystals are very frequently used to enhance psychic powers or have some sort of pseudo-scientific mystical power associated with them, Psychic either resists Crystal or is SE on it—probably not both
>Crystal is weak to Poison. It cannot stand having its physical structure flawed and corrupted like that. Jewel-related things are seen as 'pure' or high value so they would not appreciate contamination.
