It's one of the easiest ways to get high IV hidden ability Kanto Pokémon. And I think it's the only way to get HA Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. Same is true for playing GSC, but it's currently the only way to get HA Raikou, Entei, and Suicune.
The 3DS virtual console releases are required to transfer the Pokémon to Gen VII and up to get the Hidden Abilities, but you can inject your save from playing on emulators or your actual game if you have a device to dump saves from GB and GBC games.
