>>44903330I think that they wanted to build on what they did back in BW with a group of rivals, and have you part of something bigger and not limited by the starter trio. It really falls flat when they spent so much more effort on Calem and Shauna than Trevor and Tierno, Serena at least had a normal rival arc and Shauna was pretty much just support from the start but the other two don't have any competitive drive to them whatsoever, they're just background characters. Trevor isn't even good at the one thing he tries to compete with you for, and Tierno doesn't even try. Trevor also at least had some back story with an older sister and parents that abandoned them but Tierno... I can't even think of anything at all. He only ever had his dance thing and that never went farther, it doesn't make sense other than being a weird foreshadowing of SM. If they wanted to have them all prioritize something else that's great, but at least make them good at these things, be proud of their power, and try to edge you out over it.
