they're just there to have the obligatory evil team is doing evil things/stealing pokemon/stealing stuff episode
and they also suffer from the "grunts need to be dumb and the comic relief" problem, since the concept of the team itself and their goal is pretty serious, so you get all this nonsense during the main story and then get to the climax and big plan reveal and it's super random, no building-up at all
I'm really sad cuz team flare, lysandre, xy's plot in general really had potential i think but it will forever remain unfinished.
