>>44916264It takes a bit more than luck, though it does take a luck, for sure.
If you want to get started, you need the means to start. Depending on what you want to do, this can either be dirty and cheap until you can afford better or really expensive. And you need time, which is the most valuable part of the investment.
If you want to build and retain an audience, you have to have a plan. You have to have critical thinking skills to figure out what the fuck it is that your audience likes about you and your work in the first place so you can capitalize on it. You have to have more stuff in the pipeline, because the demand for more content is real; you have to be able to think ahead without losing your head.
A lot of the people who have already "made it" can afford to do this more casually. When you're starting, it's an uphill climb, where the only thing you have to motivate you is yourself.
That's by no means meant to be discouraging, just trying to keep things real. If you want to do the thing, and you think you have what it takes, then fucking go for it. Heck, if you've ever just wanted to do stuff, but don't want to commit full-on, do that shit too, creativity is fucking boss, so express yourself. Just be genuine enough that you don't lose yourself, and don't let yourself get to a point where you stop having fun doing it.
