Jesus, gen 2 is bad. It was the start of the worst trends from the modern games (excessive tutorials, slow animations, annoying gimmicks, shit pokemon distribution, items clogging your bag, real-time gated events, every mechanic requiring a 10-page guide, etc). I have no idea why people think gen 3 was the turning point in quality. Everything was present in gen 2 already.
I have come to the conclusion the only good games were gen 1. Everything past that point was based on nostalgia and the solid mechanics it introduced. As kids we didn't like GSC on its own merits, but because it was a sequel to RBY.
