Makes me wonder if it is possible for non-Shiny Pokemon to eventually become Shiny in the future. After all, TPC is in charge of the anime, right? They made it a plot point to have that Magikarp in the anime be red, not gold. It's most likely intentional that this Shiny Gyarados was originally a non-Shiny Magikarp who became far more unstable *because* it evolved unnaturally.
