>>44939758>Paper thin character is a pokemon staple>"It's all shit so that makes it ok" and all that other shitYeah but since Gamefreak went out of their way to make a more character-driven story instead/in addition to "bad guys bad, stop them", they actually had a foundation to work with to create compelling characters with actual purpose when their story and the player's story intersect. But they didn't, and created a tale where it could actually cross someone's mind that "Deleting this character would change nothing other than the most benign, insignificant details". A MAIN character shouldn't be able to be shrugged off as so easily by anyone. If they can, said character is shit.
Lillie sucks, dude. Her "arc" of her becoming empowered and standing up to her mother's bullshit contributed diddly squat when push came to shove, and at that point Gamefreak might as well have stuck with the character whose rebellious arc happened prior to the events of the game- The same character whose arc of learning to keep his ego in check and work with others actually helped put a stop to the Aether Foundation's shenanigans.
>But if Lillie doesn't steal Cosmog away the plot doesn't happen. You want to know how I know? Because Aether ended up capturing Cosmog again and Cosmog was unable to leave.Cosmog escapes by itself the first time. When the Aether Foundation recaptures it, they use newly developed technology that can contain a teleporting Pokemon properly. Wow, it was that easy to write out a main character, lmao. I imagine that if I was working with a GOOD character I'd have a much more difficult time.
