Sucks. Before the internet spoiled everything 1 day before the game was even out, some of my fondest memories were trying everything to evolve some of my Pokémon. It was frustrating but the payoff was very worth it.

Here on /vp/ we took a week and a dozen generals to help leak anon evolve his Toxel, Galar Yamask and Milcery. Still just as fun as back in the day probably more so because it was a bunch of clueless people spit-balling and testing at the same time, for the first time. There's a reason leak seasons are better than the game.

This is a good thing. The constant need to have special areas/items reintroduced every single game just to make sure a single Pokemon can evolve or form-change is so limiting and introduces so much bloat that wastes a lot of time/resources which could be better spent on actually polishing the game.
Take Crabrawler as an example. Now we need a Mount Lanakaila expie for every single region just to make sure it can evolve. Every trade item that only exists for one Pokemon needs to be placed somewhere in the game for that Pokemon to evolve. Every mega having their own stone means they need to be distributed out some way every time (Gen 7 going peak lazy and just having them be downloaded via passcode). It's all so ass backwards.

Good but could have been better. We don't need shit like Protector and Reaper Cloth to provide a lore excuse for why the evolution wasn't there before. Give items like that a use for more than a single evolution, turn them into legitimate held items with benefits that aren't consumed upon evolution. Either that or just axe them entirely.

But it isn't really fair to compare something like Barboach to Abra considering how hard one is to find in comparison. Also, did Magikarp skip a gen? Is it not in BW2 or something?

It's good, though honestly trade evolutions are the only ones that really bother me. That shit needs to be abolished completely.

I don't mind location evolutions, though they could have been simplified like evolving in ANY forested area or ANY electric power plant area, which they kind of started doing. But this at least gives more of a purpose to evolution stones, most of which were (and honestly in many cases still are) superfluous. Why the fuck does the Dawn Stone even exist?

Well, that and retarded cryptic bullshit like getting Runerigus, what the actual fuck is that all about?

The problem with this is that
a)they didn't streamline everything(Incenses are still a thing for instance)
b)They did it in the gen where consistency matters less as they broke it
c)They added more retarded methods that will require the exact same solution in the future(Runerigus, and Urshifu) so it doesn't seem they want to make their jobs easier which makes the whole thing weird.

Regional evolutions were made just to get over evolite when most would've made sense as normal evos(i.e ice stone mr.mime or teach farfetch'd sacred swors). Alcremie has a dozen items that change nothing about the pokemon besides looks
