I'm the anon above and I was thinking of the area surrounding the battle field becoming quite literally dark, and I wasn't making a black joke or anything, most dark types do steal a lot, like Purrloin, so I figured they'd take advantage of this and take their opponents' items. Though it's kind of redundant when Knock Off exists, so maybe what it could do would be lowering the accuracy of non Dark, Electric, Fire, and Bug Pokemon? Because they quite literally wouldn't be able to see? I exclude those because most can generate their own light.

Strong moonlight could be associated with fairy, dark and ghost types without it being a stretch. Umbreon's called the Moonlight pokemon, after all.

Not him but many water pokemon aren't so much water elementals but aquatic animals. Aquatic life is notoriously sensitive to chemical/waste pollution.
However this would be applicable to sludge moves and maybe gunk shot but probably not stuff like poison jab.

Why's fog not a weather condition? Fog decreases accuracy for any non-dark and non-ghost pokemons, Weather Ball becomes dark type, and fog automatically removes hazards and terrains on the field or prevents from using them.

Moves that are affected by time of day/sun take on their night properties

I know that technically a new moon is when the moon disappears so moon-based attacks shouldn't work at all, but that's no fun. Plus it's already represented with Fairy getting the nerf

they should just make it 'dark'
like, all terrains at night or when darkness is cast on them somehow. yeah the type is evil type and not literal darkness type, but in the dark is when monsters lurk and when shady deals go down.

It would just be dark because it’s easier to do evil things in the dark. Thus dark moves would stronger or more accurate ir maybe even have higher crit rates.
