And gen 3 was the first gen that had the general populace start rejecting Pokemon so Hoennfags seethe at the gen 2 Pokedex for doing what their gen couldn't. Build on the original 150 successfully. And because of how many complaints about Hoenn stem from a lack of feature retention from Johto.
Colo/Gale make them seethe because it showed up the gen 3 games massively.
Gen 4 makes them seethe because it renewed interest in Pokemon after Gen 3 almost killed it in the west and because the physical special split made Hoenn look instantly dated despite its attempts to modernize the battle mechanics.
Gen 5 makes them seethe because BW1 is the concept RSE was originally going for of a whole fresh new world but with the actual balls to go through with it.
Gen 6 makes them seethe because the weak framework and design philosophies of the generation lead to ORAS being shit.
