Why are there so many detractors that hate on the objectively best era of pokemon, aka the DS era? And not only raw hate, but retroactive hate... why?

Yeah, it is a joy when it takes 6 seconds to save my game and I need to swap a 12 digit code with someone just to do the simple action of battling anywhere other than the piss easy in-game campaign.

My main problem is the DS itself. It's a shitty console with a terrible useless gimmick. In two whole generations no game made good use of the bottom screen. At least in the 3DS games you could pet pokemon. The DS was really underpowered making the games look terrible. The only thing that looked good in the DS era were the sprites until gen 5 ruined them with spastic animation. DS pokemon are not bad but they are still the most overrated games in the franchise because of the zealous fanbase. To every rational person they are just average pokemon games.

You dont actually believe this do you? The DS was a wild success for good reason, the portable hardware was great for its time and the touch screen was an awesome gimmick that no first party developer even dabbled with yet. In my opinion, HGSS made the best use of the bottom screen, streamlining all menu-ing.

Gen4 is hated? I thought it was just meme-ing since you'll never get a remake. DS era doesn't get more hate than any other Era.
I stopped after Gen3 in my childhood but started again when I was in Highschool with Platin just to realize that Gen4 was great and that I maybe stopped too early.

Minigames like brain age and cooking mama are a not good reason. Like the Wii the majority of people buying gimmicks are casuals playing minigames and packaged games. That might be a measure of success for you but not for me.

The hardware was terrible for the time. The PSP came out at the same time. Nintendo has always used outdated hardware. It's something they pride themselves in and there is even a name for it.

The story is about Team Rocket trying to contact Giovanni, with the player traveling to eventually reach the previous region where they can collect more gym badges and eventually fight the protagonist of the previous game. This didn't exist in the originals or in the nu-gen games where it's just a straight reskin of the "beat the 8 gyms and beat the champion while stopping team bad guy along the way" and that's literally it.
