What's wrong with you guys?
GameFreak is making progress every year,and I like every new game they make,why people are so pissed when a new game comes out?
Oh,I know!Because "WAAAA WAAAA WE WANT BETTER ANIMATIONS!!!"who cares of it?
Sword and Shield's graphics are better than Sun and Moon's,which were better than X and Y's.
You know what?I love Sword and Shield,it's not my favourite game but is in the Top 5 of it.
3D doesn't mean soulless,every game has his soul,that could be the new mechanics,Pokèmon,or characters.
The real problem isn't GameFreak,is the fandom.

It's more they can't handle what Pokémon actually is at heart, having deluded themselves into thinking it was something that actually cared for them as individuals, instead of them as an age demographic. Now they're outside that, have been shown they have no agency to change that, they've become bitter, caustic individuals, thinking they can somehow win "their" series back, when it's long left tem in the dust.
I agree, I see the progress they're making (as they had made before on past hardware) and I'm looking forward to what they do next. That there's going to be a lot of adults acting like children over them makes that even better.

No, The real problem IS GameFreak.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Gen 8’s designs. Obstagoon and Mr. Rime are my 3rd and 5th favorite respectively. The gameplay was alright, pretty much carried by camping and the wild area. The problem isn’t that they’re lazy or money hungry, it’s pretty close to one of the only problems with Smash Ultimate. The devs don’t even play their own games and have no reference for what the fans want. Think about it.

The fire emblem characters in Smash have been consistently decent in the competitive scene and are popular amongst top players. Some games later and we have 8 Fire emblem characters now.

Greninja has been a pretty okay special sweeper since it’s debut in X/Y, and Protean only made him better. Not only that, but he basically overtook popularity polls to the point where he was chosen to be in smash, given a whole new form, and became one if the most popular Pokemon ever. 2 gens later, every since starter has been a jobmon. Incineroar and Primarina’s success made it worse, and Rilla and Cinderace probably aren’t going to help much either.

I probably missed some key details, but I really don’t want to put a lot of time in this. It’s like 8 am, fuck that

Except when they aren't because they scrapped all the progress they made with ORAS in 2016 when SM failed to deliver.
SWSH is in the same boat, some things were massively better than SM because of that disappointment, but other things are even worse.
We need actual progress, not one step forward two steps back every time we get QOL that should have been in from the beginning at the expense of gameplay, adventure, or decent online infrastructure.

Only because the roster is culled, now. GameFreak can use the same animations for as long as they want but they shouldn't cut shit just to sell their dumb subscription service when Pokemon Bank already exists and was begging to be ported to Switch.

anon you know why we care. Because they said that's the reason half of the pokemon are behind several DLC paywalls yet we only got the paywalls not the animations.

the resolution of the switch is indeed higher than in the 3DS. Game Freak had nothing to do with this.

not that anon but... just 15%? When I was in elementary school and RBY/GSC were popular everyone and their little sister played Pokemon. There wasn't even a question if it's your favourite game because there was nothing else people played than Pokemon for years. Later came Yugioh but just like Digimon nobody favoured this over Pokemon. Today so many other titles have caught up. and CoroCoro is a japanese magazine so Pokemon should be even bigger than here.

Xenoblade games range from 3 - 5x the size of the Gen 7 games, and I'm including all the Pokemon data as part of the size. Just judging by game time, you've got the 15 hour long Sword and Shield vs the 150 hour long Xenoblade 2, or the 250 hour long Xenoblade X. These games are absolutely massive compared to Pokemon, and they still look better.

And you want to compare smaller teams? Okay, look at Ys. Those games are made by teams smaller than Pokemon's, and yet they end up being more polished, looking better, and being better games.

Pokemon games were actually decent, even compared to other games released at the same time, back in the day. Pokemon is a victim of the 2D -> 3D transition, like Sonic the Hedgehog. Except Sonic has had good games since the transition, and Pokemon has not.
