The gen 1 birds just didn't age well in my eyes, but then again gamefreak having them be so incredibly common/available likely soured them in my eyes, especially during X/Y as I had zero desire to catch them. If they're that migratory then it makes sense some overtime would settle or adapt within a new niche if they've become accustomed enough.
Designs are fine, and Moltres needed it the most as I've always felt FRLG was a downgrade to how it was portrayed originally.
