>>44984192It does though. Unfortunately it effects them negatively, do you know how short they keep toys on shelves these days? It used to be you could have the same thing on the shelf for fucking years, and it would be a sign that the product is good and selling. These days, there's an entire term for something being on the shelves too long, shelfwarmers. So TPC has to get new product out there, usually once a year but sometimes even sooner than that. They can extend that time period somewhat by making a new subline imprint, but that only works for a couple years before they have to get brand new product. And now GF, who already struggle with making games, has to keep on that schedule and release two generations a console (although the DLC model could change that, I'm interested to see what they do with that kinda). Compare that to Monolith Soft, whose only other major obligation is helping Nintendo with every other project they're doing. If I had to guess, given Nintendo is probably the one giving GF (and Monolith) their budgets, and how BotW (Nintendo's most expensive project) almost made back the entire development costs from sales of the Wii U version alone, it's clear that neither of them are probably getting much, but Monolith have been making better use of it. Although, Monolith have always been ahead of the curve, back when some of the staff was still at Square, they made Xenogears in 1998, which is probably technically on par with DP in a lot of ways (possibly better or worse in others though).
