Fairy does make sense, it's the quintessential fairytale, wood spirits, mystical creatures, folklore, just...fairy.
It's probably pushing it but their bug resistance makes total sense since fairies are often seen riding bugs and insects, using them as tools or allies.
And even then, the game is full of weaknesses/resistances who don't make any sense, dragon resisting water but being weak to ice? Steel resisting every basically single type in the game? Fighting super effective on dark and resists bug? I can go on.
Fairy haters don't have any real arguments, as always.
