Why is N always portrayed with Reshiram in official media and such?

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to give him Zekrom, the Pokémon of Ideals, taking in consideration the entire plot of BW?

Is Reshiram always with N just because of aesthetics (I don't blame them), or is there some yin yang fuckery I'm missing?

It's just an aesthetic thing. The angelic white Reshiram fits N more than the metallic black Zekrom. It doesn't have anything to do with truth or ideals because they're actually meaningless in the context of the game's plot; they have to be in order to be swappable.

But yeah it‘s black and white, and the first one is mostly the canon one, except the other one beeing more popular, see ruby and sapphire

N seeks the truth. The protagonists already know the truth that people and pokemon can coexist together, however they want to pursue the ideal way to do so without causing pokemon suffering. Meanwhile, N, after being brainwashed and isolated from society for years, is confronted with conflicting testamony from pokemon of the outside world and desires the true answer to Pokemon liberation. N needs the truth to solve his conflicting ideals.

Pretty sure that's because they thought it was clever to give you the opposite coloured legendary. So everybody just got White instead because it had Zekrom. Lugia is also more popular than Ho-oh so Silver sold more, though Lugia is also first in the Dex implying at some point that it was supposed to be Silver and Gold.

That's still idealistic. That's the whole point of the game. It's truth (the actual truth) vs ideals. N should get Zekrom because it represents ideals.
Reshiram is said to burn down kingdoms that ignore the truth (so somebody's "truth" as in what they believe is irrelevant, it's the literal truth that it represents). Zekrom uses lightning to annihilate kingdoms that lose their righteousness.

Because Reshiram stands for half-truths, not absolute ones. N was raised on the half-truths that Pokemon suffer, Ghetsis showing him that only perspective in life. Team Plasma in general spouts half-truths as they claim to liberate Pokemon in order to protect them. Reshiram is one half of the original Unova dragon, which means not the full picture, and hence again, a half truth of what it was actually like.

Hilda/Hilbert being paired with Zekrom is meant to counter this viewpoint by giving the whole picture. They aren't meant to stand alone as some ideologue; but one could say that they idea of Pokemon/people working towards a bright future together rather than apart actually IS idealistic, and perhaps a lot of people on this board just don't get that.

It's not just aesthetics, even theme wise it fits and I played the Black versions of Unova.
