Yeah, it's a pretty obvious concept and has been thrown around for a while. Even the TCG did it back in the Johto days. It's a fine idea though some of the designs are pretty terrible

Alternative forms of Pokemon are great but I wish that they weren't pretty much gen 1 exclusive. Galarian forms were the right direction but there still needed to be a few more.

No, because i realised they make money off the wee cunts and there hasn't been a generation yet that didn't introduce new pokémon. I'd be delighted they were starting to add regional adaptations to the dex finally, about 20 years after they should have started.

Yeah, but they have the advantage of not having to worry about thematically overlapping with old Pokemon (not that it's ever stopped them before). Instead of having to come up with a gimmick to make Regional Cat #12 different from the other 11, they can just pull up a cool species of cat like the Norwegian Forest Cat (a "bearded" cat that Vikings kept on their ships) and make a Meowth version of it.

The should have had the balls to do this shit sooner instead. So many "original" pokémon in the dex are just glorified kanto variants in the first place.
It would have been cool if Geodude somehow evolved into a mix of Graveler and Boldore and the final evolution would be a plain Gigalith for example. Say what you want about the design of Obstagoo and Perseker, but the split regional split evo that has nothing to do with the original pokémon is a very cool concept to me.

Regional variations are one of the few good things about modern Pokemon. With how much Pokemon bases itself off real-life animals it's a pretty sound concept to add to the franchise and it's been around officially in some form for a long time. I think most people who hate it are just spiteful that its been Kanto getting the bulk of the additions which does blow but Kanto bias is nothing new to the franchise.

It’s one of the best ideas that have come out in recent games. Execution isn’t always great, but I think Galarian forms did a better job making past designs more unique with the addition of regional evolutions.

If Pokemon excels at anything, it’s monster designs.

Bearartic is a good example of why they didn't. It probably would have been a lot more memorable if it were just Unovian Ursarang and they changed its ring to something like the northern lights. Then both Urasrang and Bearctic would have something vaguely noteworthy about them.

Yeah they shouldn't. If anything that only proves the point I was getting at: regional variants are a cheap way to capitalize on nostalgia. It's far safer to bet on a recolor of an old mon than actually create new mons. It is also cheaper as the silhoutte and body structure of the """new""" mon is the same as his old variant. If anything, you are providing evidence that they have greedy, lazy, self complacent and afraid of making full rosters of exclusively new mons. Glad to know we are on the same page.
