The people who liked XY, or any gen for that matter, still do so nowadays. Just because they're more vocal lately doesn't mean they just suddenly started liking it just now. There's no "cycle" with Pokemon, just listening to what you want to listen and ignoring everything else.

Maybe because you people only ever interacted with this board and nowhere else, but many people from other sites were insanely hyped and loved the games when they came out. The first 3D game, people going crazy with Amie and sharing gifs, the fairies, people exchanging codes, doing all sorts of runs with the huge dex, all the mega hype, the fanart that generated, it was everywhere and it did last for a long while.
