>>45005225Tobias is still the worst loss to me, in a way it shows just how good Ash is since he took out a legendary and mythical, but at the same time, it completely shits on the themes of Ash and Paul's rivalry because no matter who won their battle of ideals, they'd just get fucking shit on by some guy using pokemon that just have too much raw power, invalidating both their styles. Like, even with Ritchie/Charizard falling asleep, or Cameron just lucking out against a shitty version of Ash, I don't care enough about Ash losing there because he didn't really deserve it.
Alain was the highlight of XY/Z as it was, he was a fantastic character, had just as much reason to win and it led really well into the Team Flare arc,
