The feeling that each battle was a push and the sense from genuine accomplishment that I got from beating the main story campaign. That was always doomed to happen because these games are easy as shit, but I miss being eight and getting my ass beat my Cyrus

Feeling like the games had actual characters. Looking back now, I think that the only figures in the game that actually had characters and weren't just two or three tropes slapped together were Silver, N, and Hau. Maybe Lillie and her family if you squint.

Not even a big gen 4 fan, or sinnoh fan at least, but I agree the sound track is goddamn amazing, shit is suspenseful when it needs to be, relaxed when it needs to be, majestic when it needs to be, upbeat when it needs to be, those night time tracks give me intense nostalgia vibes of being a teenager and playing diamond alone in my room with the lights off at night and just kinda enjoying the atmosphere of the game. Felt so damn right, pokemon will never be as warm and welcoming for me as it was in gen 4 which is weird because that's when all my friends stopped playing

Guzma was a pretty memorable character who had a unique encounter theme, Nanu too. i feel like people sleep on the alola cast just because it was from the 3ds era, it broke away from the formula way more than XY did

That happens multiple times in the newer games though, Hop's the only one who's polite enough to warn you for half his battles. Hau has an infamous battle at the beginning of the third island where he beats the player's ass if they didn't see it coming.
