itt: retards who think they're worth listening to about sound design when they call the rse+frlg instruments "the GBA soundfont"
even if we ignore that you fucks quite literally do not have the slightest clue what you're talking about and even if we ignore that when people complain about the GBA's audio they generally are referring to the fact that everything has to be compressed to shit because the GBA does not have a properly dedicated soundchip (which is practically an objective truth that cannot be argued against), OP's example is really shoddy at making the RSE/FRLG style shine - the mixing is abhorrent (no volume fadeouts on the lead? what the everloving fuck?), the instrumentation is extremely monotonous (and when they do change it, it somehow sticks out like a sore thumb), and of course, the fact that
wally's theme is shit, it's kinda hard to make the style stand out when the composition practically prevents the style from being able to make the best use of itself(at the very least, OP's example is actually authentic, so colour me surprised for /vp/'s standards)
i'll get some ">clover"'s from those of you who are incapable of seperating a game from its soundtrack, but pokemon clover's elite four theme is very effective at making the most of its toolset and would be what i would use as an example of how the style can shine, even if it adds some samples of its own. the intro makes extremely good usage of frlg's choir, the bass is a bit quiet for what it wants to be (especially in the intro) but the walking bass combined with the heavy bass drum sounds absolutely divine (and the breaks in general allow the drums to take a bit of limelight), the guitar sounds about as good as it's ever going to sound given that it's a kinda shit sample, and that harp is perfection. help's that it's a phenomenal composition too, of course
