The fact that it managed to stick around to this day is frankly astounding. That said it is an objective fact that ADV was the lowest point for the series in terms of popularity and sales. Pokemania kids were starting to grow out of the series by the tail end of Gen 2 and many dedicated fans felt betrayed by that lack of backwards compatibility in RS as well as the loss of Misty as a regular character and the original voice actors from the series.
