>>45013924It started around ~2007 with everyone replacing the phrase "image macro" with "meme". Also the "it's a meme you dip" thing got traction and people started thinking everything is a meme.
At some point meme became a replacement for "joke" but since most of them aren't funny now "meme" means "picture with words" and sometimes just "picture".
Pic would be considered a "crossover meme".
