We have a lot of representation of the Triassic/Jurassic/Cretaceous, with Kabutops, Omastar, Armaldo, and Cradily being the only ones to fall outside of that time frame (and technically Omastar was in it since Nautiluses still exist, pic related), so it'd be cool to see something from the Devonian or anything post-dinosaurs. I've thought about several different animals that could be used for an Ice Age fossil set, like:

>Woolly Rhino
>Titanoboa (for the Paleocene)
>Megaloceros
>Sabertooth Tiger

In fact, I actually came up with a Gigantopithecus Pokemon idea:

Orangiga
Fossil Ape Pokemon
Rock/Normal type
Abilities: Thick Fat/Rattled
HP: 120
Attack: 140
Defense: 40
Special Attack: 40
Special Defense: 100
Speed: 95

It'd have your general Monkey-mon moveset consisting of the elemental punches, gunk shot, close combat, and etc, but also stone edge, rock blast, double edge, body slam, and slack off.

Dinosaurs are interesting when you start considering more than just the individual dinosaurs, but high long they existed for and how the world adapted. I prefer the Paleocene and Devonian, but Triassic is probably my 3rd favorite era of pre-history.

It would have an insanely wide movepool, a la Nidoking/queen, Kangaskhan, and so on, and, of course, it'd learn Boomburst, but it'd be held back by its frailty and middling speed tier. It'd hit harder than just about everything in OU currently, and it'd have the most powerful Boomburst in the game, but you can't switch it in for shit, and it'd drain momentum, but fuck all could switch into it, meaning that if its teammate got it in safely, it'd delete a Pokemon. That way it'd have to work as a "pack animal" like its real life counterpart

how many actual dinosaur mons can they realistically even make, i mean there are a ton of very similar theropods, duckbills, and ceratopsians that all respectively share the same exact body plan, but with different ornamentation on their heads. MAYBE make a sort of non evolving duckbill mon that has different forms with either different typings, or different stats or movesets?

Yanmega, Mamoswine, and Tangrowth aren't part Rock type because they're just primal versions of their pre-evolutions, and not revived from fossils. You could say the same for Lickilicky.

there was an acient reptile around the times of cavemen that was pretty much a crocodile, with the added perk of having long legs it used to gallop on the ground like a horse. it was seemingly pretty fast

Kind of an overdone idea but I think introducing some ice age mons that were discovered frozen would be really cool for a cold region's gimmick. They would all have ice secondary typing instead of rock because allowed their body/remains to be revied while frozen

Other than that, I think a pure rock Megaloceros would be really neat. Make the antlers a massive rock rack and make it actually fast because basically only aerodactly fills this niche currently

There used to be 4 different groups of hypercranivore top predator groups in the world and all but one died out because of competition. When Australia was isolated the land croc was fine.

I use to study fossil records before I switched my major from biology w a focus on Cambrian biology to chemistry w a focus on biochemistry. Lots of wild looking animals existed in Cambrian era. Here’s a favorite of mine though I guess now that I think about it, it looks like anorith. Also I wouldn’t necessarily want another rock/water type. Anyway, here’s to hoping they make fossilmons based on animals other than from dinosaurs
