Most people prefer the originals to the remakes because all of the restrictions they made to stay "faithful" to the originals only end up bastardizing Kanto as a whole. Gen 1 feels more fulfilling because it's not painfully apparent how they cut shit like dark types, happiness evos, the day/night cycle, and breeding from the main story just for the sake of doing it. It's part of the issue with Kanto pandering as a whole. It's not that Kanto is bad, it's that every time they reference Kanto it always means the removal of shit like that when Gen 2 already had a version of Kanto with those things intact.
